according to both shell and the obama administration, and it turned out to be no match for the arctic. one of my colleagues put it quite well earlier today when he was talking about this can't be another paper exercise. they have to really dig into what happened here, and the secretary salazar said he didn't want to pre-suppose any inclusionsconclusions but it's hard to cool to any conclusion but that shell screwed up, and the arctic is no match for the technology they'll put up there. >> cenk: the arctic sounds like to "the young turks" too strong. i'm skeptical about the administration because i've seen when they've reallowed drilling in the gulf coast. well the safety precautions you know, it's a work in progress. that makes me really concerned. is my concern about the obama administration in this realm justified or not justified. >> totally justified. shell has a lot of egg on their face right now. but the fact of the matter is the obama administration pretty much okayed this operation. you look at what shell is trying to do. the whole process is a drilling incident and the obama admin

times progressives giving that withdrawal statement during the obama administration. i would be a distraction, et cetera. for a conservative to do it. wow! who are these legendary progressives who can get president obama to listen to them. as you can see from the presidential inaugural committee, they have listened in deed. if there's one progressive group that gets the job done, it is gay rights activists. god bless their heart. matt joins us in studio. there's a lot to discuss. how in the world does the gay rights community get so many successes politically? >> i think in this instance in particular, you saw the obama administration's desire not to have rick warren part two. that plagued him for weeks. weeks and weeks. and knowing how well the lbgt movement worked for the obama reelection campaign, there's no way they were interested in messing this up. there's a bottom line. lgbt helped get obama reelected and he knows that. >> cenk: i think you've hit on it exactly. that so how did they get him reelected? the lgbt community is strong, but not a high percentage of the vote

an unimportant factor but the obama administration is reaching out to jewish groups to get his nomination. do you think statements related to israel are going to pose a problem for him? >> i don't know. i think it will cause some problems yes. it will probably lose him some votes, but i have been under the spotlight a lot less in my life than you have or senator hagel and i have had things come out not quite right, and the question is whether he would have israel's back as defense secretary. and i would like to hear some details on if he would. i think israel does need to rethink it's settlements policy but he would not have a big role in those decisions anyway. he has to help israel's military be strong enough to defend their security. >> jennifer: there was another important nomination today which was john brennan being nominated to head the cia. your take on him given his criticism on the use of interrogation techniques. >> i think he'll get a knew criticisms from the left but these will be from democrats who don't want to see president obama's nomination defeated. and br

departure adds to the mounting criticism of the obama administration for now seeming to stack its cabinet with men. all of the recent nominations are white males. as for who will remain eric holder is going to stay on for a second term and secretary of veteran at fairs. we're back after the break. stay with us. ♪ alright, in 15 minutes we're going to do the young turks. i think the number one thing that viewers like about the young turks is that we're honest. they know that i'm not bs'ing them with some hidden agenda, actually supporting one party or the other. when the democrats are wrong, they know that i'm going to be the first one to call them out. they can question whether i'm right, but i think that the audience gets that this guy, to the best of his ability, is trying to look out for us. um, hello. these ugly stains are ruining my good looks and style. and good luck using that cleaner. excuse me, miss ? he's right. those are tough hard water stains, and that cleaner's not gonna cut it. truth is, 85% of us have hard water and many don't even know it. you need lime-a-w
